Obituary

Deacon George Arthur Jenkins, Sr., 88, of The Oaks at Forsyth, formerly of Patterson Avenue, departed this life early Tuesday morning, February 3, 2009 to be with Jesus.

George served in the US Army from October 1941 until his honorable discharge in December 1945. He worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired after 26.1 years of service.

Deacon Jenkins was a faithful member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church for over 51 years where he served in many capacities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Sue Jenkins; two sons, George A. Jenkins Jr. and Jimmy Roger Amos; and a daughter, Brenda Faye Jenkins.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving family consisting of four daughters, Catheryne J. Scott, Evangelist Charlette J. Gattison, Jean (Rev. Ronald) Fisher, and Joan J. Johnson, all of Winston Salem N.C.; two sons, Rev. Charles (Dorethea) Jenkins of Chambersburg, PA, and Larry Jenkins of Winston- Salem, N.C; also mourning his lost one sister, Liza Sutton of Philadelphia, PA; and one brother, Deacon Curtis (Colista) Green of the city; one brother in-law, John E. Amos of Detroit MI; 16 grandchildren;18 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12Noon Saturday, February 7, 2009 from the St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend James E. Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12Noon on Saturday at the Church.
