David Springs Edwards gained his wings on August 18, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1957, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late David and Barbara Edwards. He attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1975.
In 1977, David proudly joined the United States Army, serving his country as a Specialist Four with the 82nd Airborne Division before receiving an honorable discharge. After returning home, he built a long career with Food Lion as a produce associate, retiring after 20 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work part-time as a security officer and later as a maintenance technician for the City of Winston-Salem.
Those who knew David will remember his infectious laugh, unforgettable sense of humor, and genuinely kind heart. He had a way of bringing laughter wherever he went and making people feel welcomed and loved. His life was also a testament to strength and perseverance. Through some of life’s toughest challenges, David found the strength to endure, keep going, and continue finding reasons to smile.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Barbara Edwards.
He leaves to cherish his memory his former wife and longtime friend, Cynthia Edwards, with whom he shared the joy of raising their children and grandchildren; a daughter, Dr. Alexa Edwards; a son, David (Kendra) Edwards, Jr.; grandchildren, Kamari Pinkney, Dellanie Pinkney Edwards, Jahmai Brinkley, and Jewel Edwards; sisters, Deborah Williams and Latrell Edwards; brothers, Kevin (Tatia) Springs, Rev. Kalvin (Charlene) Edwards, and Terry Edwards; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
David lived with humor, loved with his whole heart, and endured with remarkable strength. His laughter may no longer fill the room, but the joy, love, and memories he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone blessed to have known him.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Fresh Wind Fellowship Baptist Church, 2900 Old Salisbury Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Church.
