In loving memory of David Lee Saunders, who passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024. Born to James Collins Saunders and Equilla Mae Johnson on May 6, 1946, he was the oldest of his siblings, which included: Louis Saunders, Veronica Johnson, and Deborah Johnson, along with Daleel Muhammad. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion and resilience, survived by his children: Kadedra Posey, Barry Posey, Robert Saunders, and Patrice Saunders (Lumumba Shakur). Despite the recent loss of his eldest son, David Malcom Saunders, David Lee's spirit lives on through the memories he shared with his family.
David Lee's life was a tapestry woven with threads of triumph and compassion. He embodied the power of redemption by overcoming addiction and dedicating 39 years to a life of sobriety. David's journey led him from serving his country in the military to community activism under the original Black Panther Party to a fulfilling career at the United States Postal Service. After retirement, his compassionate heart led him to pursue a degree in Social Work, reflecting his unwavering commitment to helping those in need. A devout Christian, his faith became the cornerstone of his life and the motivating force of his twilight years. As we gather to honor David's life, let us celebrate his remarkable journey and the impact he had on all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. Though he may have left this world, his legacy of constantly working towards self-betterment will continue to inspire us all. David Lee Saunders will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
