Obituary

Mr. David Lee Plater, Jr., better known as “Supa Dave”, 39, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 at his residence.

He was a native and resident of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, a graduate of Parkland High School, and attended Louisburg College where he was a star football athlete in both settings.

David was truly one of a kind, the kind of person who could brighten a whole day just by showing up. He had the sweetest soul. He was also a cherished member of the community. He brought people together.

He was a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend who stayed true to his faith. He was loved by so many and everyone saw him as a gentle giant.

He was preceded in death by his mother, LaWarna Humphrey; grandmothers, Pauline Charles and Virginia Plater; and his grandfather, Thomas Humphrey.

He is survived by his son, Jace Plater; sisters, Dementrice (Kevin) Cox and Sarah Gathings; niece, Lea Plater; uncles, Leo Cannon, III and Thomas (Lucero) Humphrey, III; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 12noon Monday, March 9, 2026 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1711 Claremont Ave NC W-S, NC with Pastor Victor Davidson officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
