David Aquilla Mickle was born on February 20, 1954 to the late Mr. George Wright Mickle and Mrs. Lilliam Bynum Mickle. He was their 11th child who was a surprise to his 10 siblings; Georgia, Dennis, James, Roscoe, Annie, Lillian, Lillie, John, George and Andreà. His maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Bynum Hamilton got great pleasure telling the family pastor Rev. David R. Hedgley, "I have a new grandson, initials D.A.M., David Aquilla Mickle." David learned of this and used his initials throughout his school years (not always putting the "D.A.M.").
He didn't follow the tradition of the family 10 siblings, who all graduated from Atkins High School but he was in the "class of 72 that never was…" instead he was part of the Class of East Forsyth High School which integrated it.
He went into the Army and received an Honorable Discharge. He worked various jobs; truck driving, car salesman, and others. However, his creativity and passion was in Hair Care influenced by neighbor, Mr. James Patterson, Barber. He got his license using his sisters as models and he taught them not to ask David, "are you going to wash our hair?" "No, you wash dishes, clothes and cars. You shampoo your hair."
David was also creative – cooking, baking (Pop's desserts) and was author of a book.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 7 siblings.
David leaves to mourn his 2 children, Teleah Mickle and David A. Mickle, Jr.; grandchildren, Victor, Amaya, Kasey, Mason and Myles; 3 sisters, Mrs. Annie M. McRae, Ms. Lillie M.J. Mickle and Ms. Andreà M. Bush; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins in the Mickle, Price and Jackson families; and friends, especially Rev. James R. Clyburn.
