Mr. David Lee Hackett, 68, of 111 Vine Street passed away Monday, January 2, 2012. He was born November 24, 1943 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Samuel and Valeria Hackett.

David attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, where he later moved to Morganton, NC and was an employee at Broughton Hospital where he retired.

David was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and niece.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Rebecca Hackett; son, David Hackett, Jr.; daughters, Cecillia Hackett all of Morganton, NC, and Samantha Sullivan of Winston-Salem, NC; three devoted sisters, Everlyn Smalls of Mt. Vernon, NY, Juanita Williams and Gloria (Quent) Venable of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother-in-law, Bobby (Clara) Stillwell; three grandchildren all of Morganton, NC; a special niece, Joyce Hackett; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Monday at the funeral home.
