Obituary

Darryl Lee Jackson transitioned to his Heavenly home on November 22, 2024 in the comfort of Trellis Supportive Care.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Jackson, of 36 years. He was born March 8, 1962, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Tommy Walter Jackson, Sr. and Susie Mae Jackson.

He attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools where he graduated from East Forsyth High School, Class of 1981. Upon graduation, he chose a career as a cement finisher with his late father, Tommy Jackson, Sr. and his late brother, Anthony Jackson.  He later attended Forsyth Technical School and obtained his certification as a CNA.  He also received his certification as an Anesthesia Technician while working at Novant Health.  He loved his job and the people that he worked with.

Darryl was a man of faith.  He was baptized at an early age while attending St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church.  During this time, he was introduced to music by his late father. He taught Darryl how to play the guitar. This was the beginning of something very special. Darryl was a member of the quartet group Tommy Jackson and The Soulful Travelers. He went on to play for various choirs and quartet groups. Due to his long-term illness, he was no longer able to play the guitar, but that did not keep him from making music, he would play the drums. He was also known as Deacon Jackson. He obtained his first certification as a Deacon at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church on October 28, 2001, under the leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Samuels. He later joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon on June 18, 2023, under the leadership of Pastor Dwight Hash. His love for God and music was no secret.  He shared his knowledge with everyone he came in contact with.  He loved and cared for his church family, and it showed.

Darryl was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Jackson and Maurice Jackson; and one sister, Kimberly Jackson.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories his brother, Pastor Tommy (Faye) Jackson, Jr. of Columbia, SC; four sisters, Susie Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Geraldine Thomas, Irish Faye (Broderick) Williams, and Tonya (Clifford) Hubbard of Winston-Salem, NC; Goddaughter, Megan "Baby Girl" Cook; two special mothers, Pat Martin and Sheila O'Neal of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
