Darnell Lathal Drummond, the son of Margaret Davis Drummond and George Drummond, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2017 after a brief illness.
Darnell was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, where he worked as a contractor for the Defense Department. He relocated to Winston-Salem over 25 years ago to work for a local engineering firm. Shortly after, he began working for AMP (now TE Connectivity) as a designer in the engineering and production of automotive electronics.
Darnell belonged to the Rolling Aces bowling club and competed in tournaments across the country. He was also a car enthusiast who travelled to car shows throughout the southeastern U.S.
Darnell was predeceased by his mother and father; sister, Venetia Ware; and brother, George Drummond III. He was a loving husband, devoted father, brother, grandfather and mentor to many. Darnell's legacy will be cherished and passed along by his wife, Corlis Sellers-Drummond; daughter, Shelly Majette Carrington (Shawn Carrington, Sr.) of Virginia Beach; sister, Sharlene Collick of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Betty Drummond (Virigina); brother-in-law, Oliver Lasley, Jr. (California); step children, Gwanda Majette (Virginia), Stephen Sellers and Adrienne Sellers (New Jersey); grandchildren, Treshawn Flowers, Jabria Carrington, Shawn Carrington, Jr., Layla Sellers and great granddaughter Trinity. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Darnell Drummond's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Winston Salem State University Foundation, 311 Blair Hall, Winston-Salem, NC 27110.
The family visitation will be held 11:00am Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. A Celebration of life service will follow immediately at 12:00noon. Interment will be held at a later date in Roosevelt Cemetery, Chesapeake, VA.
