Obituary

Darius Reuben Scales was born to the union of Mr. Tyrone and Marion Scales on January 31, 1973. He departed this life on Friday, June 27, 2014.

Darius grew up embraced by the biblical teachings that surrounded him. He was one with a humble spirit and a contrite heart. Darius was best known by the spirit of joy he carried with him everywhere he went. His engaging smile will always be remembered by his family and friends.

He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools and graduated from Independence High School in 1992.
He worked several places throughout the city. He was a "cook" from his heart. His favorite job was working with the children in the Greyhounds Pop Warner football team. This he engaged in throughout his life.

Darius was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mrs. Dorena Graham Scales; grandfather, Mr. P. Thomas Scales; an uncle, Mr. Tony Scales; and a cousin, Mrs. Tammi Cuthrell.

He leaves to cherish many dear memories, his father and mother of the home Bishop Tyrone and Bishop Marion Scales; one brother, Renzie (Tameka) Scales; 9 aunts, Brenda (Earl) Morrison, Helen (Richard) Lewis, Prestina (Jimmy) Gist, Brenda S. Reeves, Reverend Parthenia (Robert) Galloway, Priscilla (Preston) McFarlin, Ada Scales, Saundra H. Scales and Beatrice H. Bridges; 2 uncles, Gerald (Frances) Mobley and James McCorkle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Emory L. Clark, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Thursday at the Chapel.
