A beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Daniel Webster Payne, Jr., peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on August 20, 2026. His 62 years were filled with experiences and memories that his family and loved ones will carry with them forever. Daniel was born on March 22, 1964, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Clara Payne and the late Daniel Webster Payne Sr.

Growing up in Winston-Salem, Daniel attended Parkland High School, where he began building the foundation for his life and many experiences that would follow. Daniel was a hardworking man who believed in putting in an honest day's work. Throughout his life, he worked as a truck driver, a career that took him along many roads and became an important part of his life's journey. He also worked at Royal Cake, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Whether behind the wheel or on the job, Daniel took pride in his work and the responsibilities entrusted to him. Above all, Daniel's greatest legacy can be found in the family and loved ones he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Webster Payne, Sr., whose memory remained a part of his family’s story.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Clara Payne; his sons, Daniel Harris, Nicholas Payne, and Daniel Smith; his daughter-in-love, Tarniquia Garlington; his beloved granddaughter, Tiffany Harris; Daniel also leaves precious memories with his siblings, Mary Payne and Christopher Payne; his nieces and nephews, Travionne Thacker, Tracie Thacker, and Kristie Thacker; as well as many other relatives, friends, and loved ones who were blessed to share in his life.

Although Daniel's earthly journey has come to an end, the love and memories he leaves behind will continue to live through those who knew him. His family will remember the moments they shared, the stories that brought laughter, and the experiences that made Daniel uniquely who he was. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a lasting part of the hearts and lives of those who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Thursday, August 27, 2026 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Thursday at the Chapel.
