Mr. Dallas Cranwood Eccles, Sr., affectionately known as "D.C.", passed away quietly and peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at his home. He was born to the late Alexander, Sr. and Eliza Wharton Eccles of Clemmons, NC on December 24, 1930.
Possessing a vibrant and loving personality, "D.C." was truly an inspiration and adored by many. He retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 34 years of service. HE also worked with Russell Funeral Home for many years. He was a graduate of Carver High School and later married Ruth Donnell Eccles.
In addition to his parents, "D.C." was preceded in death by six brothers, Alexander, Jr., Evans, George, Frank, Willie Smith, and Willis Wharton; and five sisters, Amanda Wharton, Francis Louise Eccles, Bobed Murray, Martha Savannah Mock, and Eliza Hairston.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his beloved wife, Ruth Eccles of the home; to this union one son was born, Dallas C. Eccles, Jr. (Doris); from this branch sprouted two grandchildren, Dallas C. Eccles, III and Dione C. Eccles; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Maliyah, and Savannah; his youngest brother, David Eccles (Francine); sister-in-law, Maybelle Eccles; brothers-in-law, Billy Hairston, Sr. and Lawrence Murray, Sr.;and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, January 31, 2014 at Carver Road Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
