Cyrus Simon Jr. was born on May 17, 1921 in Darlington, SC to the late Bertha Hines Simon and Sears Simon. He departed this life on December 3, 2019.
He moved to Winston-Salem with his wife Maybell Bacote Simon in the 1940's and proceeded to build his family and career in a city with more opportunity. He was a devoted employee of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired after almost 30 years of dedication.
He was a faithful member of St. Matthews Apostolic Temple Church of Jesus Christ and in his later years being honored as the "Father of the Church". He believed in the power of old fashioned hard work and with almost no education, he became a successful man and a respected member of the East Winston community. Cyrus was revered by all who encountered his tough love and he was affectionately known as "Mr. C" by everyone in the community.
He was preceded in death by his mother; father; wife; brothers, Lucius Simon, Willie Simon, Henry Simon; sisters, Louise White, Carrie Gainey, Susanna McKay, Katie McLeod; and grandchildren, Luther Gordon and Trellis Simon.
He leaves to cherish his memory 8 children, Jessie (Melvin – deceased) Wilds, Louise (Carl) Williams-Motley, Gloria Gordon, Ceroy (Brenda) Simon, Eric (Rebecca) Simon, Juanita Simon, Katrina Marsh and Reginald Simon; a sister-in-law, Margaret (Henry) Simon; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
