Obituary

Friday, February 29, 2008 God reached down to earth and picked a beautiful rose, Mrs. Corine Simon Sawyer Newton, for his heavenly garden. Mrs. Newton was a resident at The Nursing Center at oak Summit formerly of 1420 Fitch St. and the wife of James F. Newton who preceded her in death. She was born March 12, 1916 in Darlington, SC to Jordan, Sr. and Nellie Simon and was preceded in death by a son, James Curtis Sawyer.

A faithful member of Hanes Memorial CME Church. Mrs. Newton served as a member of the Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, and Inspirational Chorus.

Leaving to cherish her loving memories are three granddaughters, Cynthia Joyner, Tomara B. Monroe (Ronnie), and Allison Boulware of Winston-Salem, NC; two great-grandsons, Lamar Joyner (Jaime) of Pfafftown, NC, Justin Monroe of Sanford, NC; two great-great grandchildren, Jaren and Jasmine Joyner of Pfafftown, NC; two brothers, Perry Lee Simon (Fannie) of Darlington, SC and Jordan Simon (Daisy) of El Paso, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Russell Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Clarence Cox, III officiating, Pastor of Hanes memorial CME Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until 1 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
