Mrs. Cora Jane Day Warren, 109, of 1512 E. 1st. Street, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016. She was born in Yanceyville, NC to the late Jim and Dorothy Day. She later moved to Winston-Salem where she stayed at previous locations before she moved to the Happy Hill Community where she started the first Girl Scout Troop. She was also employed by Old Salem for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by two children, Christine Richmond and James "JW" Warren.

She is survived by four children, Katherine Harris, John (Pat) Warren, Sr., Evon Speed, and Mohammed Herb; grandchildren, Fred Richmond, James Warren, Jr., Patricia Thorns, Mack Warren, Darlene (Rodney) Carpenter, Hyron Warren, David Harris, Felicia (Rod) Perkins, Cliff (Jennifer) Warren, William Warren, Celia Speed, Chris Speed, and Mark (Crystal ) Hughes; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, July 21, 2016 at United Progressive Baptist Church with Rev. Lewis Devlin officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
