Cora Mae Kirkpatrick Daniels moved from her earthly home to her heavenly resting place on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. She spent 81 years loving her family, friends, and community.
Born in Greensboro and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, Cora was educated in the public school system. Her favorite, of course, being Atkins High School where she flourished in the marching band. She went on to work for the only black-owned insurance company in North Carolina, Winston Mutual Insurance Company.
With hard work and determination, Cora furthered her education at Forsyth Technical Community College in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program. Upon graduation, she went on to service her community at Baptist Hospital, kidney dialysis centers, detention centers, and local nursing homes. Cora poured her wit and will power into her profession for over 40 years before retiring.
Throughout her career, and even until her life's end, Cora rejoiced in using her talents to praise God. She was a steadfast and vivacious member of her church where she played the piano and organ. The most recent of these churches was St. James AME Church. Whether she was leading a choir selection or recording a new jingle for her voicemail, Cora used her music to spread light and cheer.
Cora's loved ones were not only blessed with her music, but also her baking. She loved to bake sweets for celebrations, family functions, or just to spread a little love. Her specialties were banana pudding and sweet potato pie.
Cora was preceded in death by her adoptive mother, Ella Barton; and biological mother, Geneva Kirkpatrick.
The light of her love will blaze on in her two devoted sons, Roger (Clatha) Kirkpatrick and Ronald (Lois) Kirkpatrick; three loving grandchildren, Roger (Latisha) Kirkpatrick, Jr., Sgt. Lelyn Kirkpatrick, and Dr. Kimberly Kirkpatrick; as well as her vibrant great-grandson, Jalyn Kirkpatrick; she was also blessed with loving and supportive friends with some spanning back to their time in kindergarten.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00noon Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
