Obituary

Early Sunday morning, June 15, 2008, our Angel and mother was called home at the Wake Forest University/ Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Connie Mae White Carter affectionately known as "Ma" of 4632 Walden Drive was born in Lancaster, SC November 27, 1915 to James and Matilda Reid Curry. At an early age the family moved to Cheraw, SC where she attended the public schools.

In the early 1940's Mrs. Carter moved to Winston-Salem, NC and was employed by National Linen and retired after 45 years of service. She joined First Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Senior Usher Board. She was also a member of the Winston-Salem Community Prayer Band and served faithfully.

In the year of 2000, Mrs. Carter moved to Anderson, SC and worshiped at the King David Baptist Church for six years. After returning to Winston-Salem in 2006, she resumed membership with First Calvary and the W-S Prayer Band.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by Mr. Robert Lee White and Mr. Josephus Carter; two brothers; one sister; and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Carter was a God-fearing woman and showed love to everyone she met.

She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Mrs. Frances (Stan) Wallace with whom she lived and Mrs. Christine Lockhart; a God-daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth (Willie) Marshell all of Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and a host of other loved ones and friends.

Homegoing services will be held at Noon Saturday, June 21, 2008 from the First Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. A.I. Griffey officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until Noon on Saturday at the Chapel. The family may be contacted and will leave from the home of her daughter, Christine Lockhart at 1101 E. 23rd Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
