On Monday, April 11, 2022 Mr. Clyde Thomas Cutler, Jr. relinquished his labor and entered enteral reward at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Clyde Jr. was the first child born to Clyde T. Cutler, Sr. and late Catherine S. Cutler on September 12, 1950 in Yanceyville, NC. He later moved to Winston- Salem with his parents spending most of his childhood in the city. Clyde Jr. attended Atkins High School. He completed his education and entered service with the United States Army from 1969 - 1973. Upon returning home, Clyde Jr. received an Electronic Engineering Technology Certificate from Forsyth Technical Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his younger brother, Arthur L. Cutler.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his siblings, Edith Slade, Reverend Larry L. (Daisy) Cutler, and Minister Cynthia. C. Adams; uncle, Jimmy (Helen) Slade, Sr. and Edward Morrison Sr.
Clyde Jr. was adored by his nieces and nephews, Ryan (Tonya) Cutler, Marissa Adams, Micheal Adams, Marcella (Corey Sr.) Johnson, Alex (Kendra) Cutler; and his great nieces and great nephews, Kristoria, Monshella, Mondale Jr., Aniya, Amare, Corey Jr., Camar, Micheal II, Leilani, and Khloe. Clyde Jr. was not blessed with any biological children but had a son by choice, Rahman Gardner, and developed a father and daughter relationship with his first great-niece, D'vonya Adams. Clyde was "that" uncle who loved and spoiled you as if you were his own, and his nieces and nephews and their children were his joy; and a host of family and friends.
Clyde Jr. was an awesome brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. He lived a whole purpose-filled life and was loved beyond measure. He will truly be missed by all that he encountered, as his smile and the laughter he brought is unforgettable. Clyde's most prized possession in life was his 35+ plus years of sobriety and the devoted work with Unity Alcoholics Anonymous. The Unity Community was truly a second family to him and was very dear to his heart. Clyde had a true calling for helping the homeless and less fortunate and was promoted to Director of Samaritan Ministries in 1992 after working there for several years. In his later years, he continued this work by running sobriety recovering home for men. Clyde's love and devotion to this work can be understood by this quote he provided in 1992 to the W-S Journal "I'm always in someone else's pain…But my payoff is each time someone recovers."
Clyde Jr. epitomized the phrase "may the work I've done speak for me." He contributed to the path of sobriety and sober living for countless people in the Winston Salem and Galax VA area. Clyde Jr. was an overall GREAT man, and he will be missed but dearly remembered and upheld by all.
