Mr. Clifton Lanier Hines was born to Wilson and Suevary Hines on February 2, 1938 and went to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 19, 2015.
Cliff and Dollie were best friends since age 17 and were married for 59 years. Clifton graduated from Atkins High School and received a BA Degree from Winston-Salem State University. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He started his career at RJ Reynolds–Archer Division where he retired after 30 years of service as a Supervisor. He followed that career with 15 years of service as a Forsyth County School Bus Driver. He considered his riders and his fellow drivers as his very own "God Children."
As a youth, Cliff joined Antioch Baptist Church and was Chairman of the Deacon Board for 34 years. He was a charter member of the Lansing Drive location. Cliff was extremely active in the community positively impacting individuals of all ages through his affiliations in the Alpha Chapter Phalanx Fraternity (Charter Member), WSSU Hoops, Inc. (Charter Member), Salem Lodge #139 Free and Accepted Masons Prince Hall Affiliated and the Winston-Salem Sickle Cell Foundation.
Cliff was an avid bowler and bowled with the Camel City Bowling Club/TNBA, Northside Bowling Leagues and the Countryside Bowling League.
Cliff blessed many hearts singing the gospel as a founding member of The Sensational Mighty Wonders. Cliff never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel special. As a result, he accumulated an abundance of friends over his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two daughters, Carla Renee Hines and Nadean C. Hines; and four brothers, Willie, Murray, Ernest, and Louis Hines.
Clifton is survived by his adoring wife, Dollie; daughters, Dydra "Dedee" (John) Virgil of Stone Mountain, GA and Cheryl (Christopher) Ladson of Norcross, GA; three cherished grandchildren, Kellen and Kala Virgil and Cameron Hines; one brother, Oscar (Betty) Hines; one sister, Shirley (Apostle Wallace) Gaither; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church, 5061 Lansing Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with Rev. Jimmy Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday at the Church.
