Clementine Odessa Battle Shaw was born Aug. 25, 1939 to Dazel and Claude Battle, Sr. in Whitaker, NC. She left us peacefully Apr. 15, 2021 to join the love of her life and husband for over 60 years, James Shaw, Sr. Clementine's life can best be defined as a life of service to others.
She was a 1960 Graduate of the Kate Bitting Nursing School. She began her career at Kate Bitting (Reynolds Memorial Hospital) as a surgical nurse. She quickly rose to operating room supervisor. This trajectory would be repeated throughout her career. She moved into long term care and geriatric nursing in the early 1970s. She started in staff develop at Silas Creek Manor. During her 40 year career we watched her become a director of nursing, an assistant administrator, and ultimately a licensed nursing home administrator. She was a mentor to many RNs throughout her career. She took great pride in that and enjoyed watching her mentees grow. Clementine was a charter member of the Chi Chi chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority. She was a member of United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family most of all. She is survived by four children, Angela Anderson(Edward), James Shaw, Jr. (Shelia), Herlane Edwards ( Tyrone), and Bo Gilliam (Marilyn); a loving Godson, Aldeen Smith (Paulette); seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brother and sister, Claude Battle, Jr. and Linda Battle; sister-in-law, Doris Glenn; brother-in-law, George Shaw (Anne); and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family wants to thank all of our friends, family, and caregivers for your love and support during our journey with mom and dad.
THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, April 19, 2021 in Evergreen Cemetery.
