Claudia Virginia Mathews of Winston-Salem, NC departed this life to enter her heavenly home on Monday, July 6, 2020 following a period of illness.

Born November 27, 1938 to Helen Manning and Henry Evans in McClellanville ,South Carolina, Claudia spent her childhood years in Georgetown, South Carolina and would later move to New York state until she met the love of her life in Fayetteville, North Carolina, May 1960.

Claudia and Donald Mathews married on June 4, 1960 and remained happily married for over 60 years Claudia was a devoted Army wife and mother to three beautiful daughters.

Mrs. Mathews memory will be celebrated by her loving husband, Donald of the home; three devoted daughters, Denise A. Mathews and Monique A. ( Michael) Cannon of Winston Salem, NC and Dawn S. (Robert) Kearse of Walkertown, North Carolina; 10 beloved grandchildren, Tristan, Sr., Derrica and Timothy Mathews, Danielle, Clifton IV, Christopher and Alexander Jeffries, Jaden, Jala and Jalaya  Kearse; one great-granddaughter, Triziyha Mathews; Claudia also leaves to celebrate her memory six brothers and sisters, Ronald( Edna) Horne, Joyce Brown, and Henry Evans, Jr. of SC, Janice (Milton) Slaughter, Patricia Gadsden, and John (Modessa) Glenn of NY; a special friend, Nellie Joyner of W-S, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Manning and Henry Evans; her grandparents, Mackey Ford and Reginia Ford; her brothers, Marvin and Terrence Horn; and her great-grandson, Tristan D. Mathews, Jr.

Private funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020.
