Mrs. Clarice Olene Dodd Samuels was born on September 8, 1933 in Surry County, NC to the late Mandy Dodd Winford and Alonzo Winford.  She passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  She attended Surry County schools and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Forsyth Technical Community College of Winston-Salem, NC.  Clarice worked as a Machinist for Westinghouse Electric Corporation until she retired.

In her early years, Clarice loved playing the piano and singing for Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Pinnacle, NC.  During the summer of 1955, she met James C. Samuels. This introduction was made by her soon to be father-in-law, Reverend W. E. Samuels of Mars Hill Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC. She and James wed on December 27, 1955 and were blessed with 4 children. Clarice continued her love of music at Mars Hill by creating and leading the Tiny Tots & Teens Choir that soon swelled to over 100 members.  She was known for transporting many singers in her station wagon and for drawing huge crowds of attendees who lined up to hear her popular young choir sing.  Clarice very much loved cooking and gardening.  She was known for delicious meals and beautiful flowers.  In her later years, Clarice became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she continued enjoying her love of music and fellowship.

Clarice leaves to cherish beautiful memories her husband of 62 years, James C. Samuels, Sr. of the home;  4 children, Jacqueline Blyther, James, Jr. (Angela) ,and Linda all of Winston-Salem, NC and Joseph, Sr. (Sharon) of Clover, SC; 11 grandchildren, Antwonne, Sr., Orlando, Sr., Makeva, Martina, Alisha, James, III, Donnie, Aundra, Joseph, II, Leon, and Jaelyn; 26 great grandchildren;  brother, Jerry Dodd (Nancy); sister, Lynne Patterson (Dennis); 2 sisters-in-law, Jackie Dodd and Mary Lee Simington; 3 brothers-in-law, Bernard, Roosevelt, and Benjamin Samuels; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, April 30, 2018 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Lester Boyd officiating and Rev. Zella Johnson eulogist.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
