Clarence William McKee, Jr., affectionately known as "Mack," was born on August 2, 1941, in Rowan County, North Carolina, the son of the late Clarence Eugene and Nannie Connor McKee. He was called by God to his eternal rest on January 26, 2026, at Trinity Glen in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his late wives, Marlyne Lyttle McKee and Nancy R. McKee, and his sisters: Virginia Dungee, Bettye McKee, Ruth Redd, Jewell McKee, and Irma Sifford.
Clarence was educated in the public schools of Rowan County and graduated from Dunbar High School in East Spencer (Class of 1959). He played on Dunbar's basketball team as a starter, averaging 10 points per game. In July 2021, he became the first inductee into the Dunbar High School Sports Hall of Fame by the Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. He also served as president of the Dunbar Student Council and was voted "Most Intellectual" and "Most All-Round" by his classmates.
After high school, he attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T - "AGGIE PRIDE"). While attending NC A&T, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Mu Psi Chapter, and walked the line by himself, earning the name "Lone Wolf". After graduating from NC A&T, he worked as a guidance counselor and assistant principal in Sanford, NC before relocating to Winston-Salem. He was Director of Federal Programs/Exceptional Children for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. Clarence later joined Winston-Salem State University where he served as Director of the Upward Bound Program and Director of Student Support Services until his retirement in 2018.
Clarence was a man of faith and believer in Jesus Christ. He was a devoted member of the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he was also a member of the Aggie Athletic Foundation, Bachelors of Benedict, Social Promoters, Dunbar Alumni Association, Inc., and James H. Young Memorial Lodge #670 Prince Hall Masons.
Clarence will be lovingly remembered by his son Clarence "Mackie" McKee, III (Karin); two daughters, Alicia Hunter and Almeda Kyser (Darius); one sister, Elaine M. Morgan; his special friend, Jennifer Calloway; nephews: George Dungee (Andrea), Joseph Dungee (Latasha), Robert Morgan (Tia); nieces: Donna McKee, Diane Harris (Andre), and Kathy Morgan; and a host of family and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:15pm Friday, February 13, 2026 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Omega service will begin at 11:00am followed by family visitation at 11:30am. The Repast will be held at Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 5000 Noble Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
