Christine Yvonne Lane Evans was born on January 13, 1947, to the late John Hull Lane Sr. and Etta Grier Lane Ross. She was affectionately known as "Miss Chris." She departed this life for her heavenly home on July 22, 2026, after a brief illness.

Miss Chris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Gene "Catfish" Evans; her brother, John Hull Lane Jr.; her son, Kevin Evans; her grandson, William Harris; and a host of beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Miss Chris attended Paisley High School and Forsyth Technical Community College. She was an avid learner who had a deep love for mathematics and music. One of the most memorable moments of her childhood occurred in 1957 while she was in the sixth grade. She submitted a question to "Ask Andy," a nationally syndicated children's question-and-answer columnist, asking, "Could a man walk on the moon?" At the time, no one could answer with certainty. Twelve years later, in 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon, making her childhood question remarkably prophetic. In recognition of her curiosity, she received a globe, and her photograph was published in the newspaper. Experiences like this inspired her lifelong love of reading and learning, and she encouraged young people to dream big, remain curious, and never stop pursuing knowledge.

Miss Chris faithfully served her community through the Tiny Vikings Football League as the Business Manager. She worked tirelessly to ensure that every child had the opportunity to participate by helping raise funds and securing sponsors so that no young athlete would be left out. Her dedication and commitment made a lasting impact on creating beautiful wreaths and coordinating weddings. She loved sewing and crocheting clothing for her children when we were young. Perhaps she was best known for her wonderful cooking and baking, especially her famous cornbread dressing, cakes, and pies. Miss Chris held several positions before retiring from Medical Park Hospital in 2006 after 30 years of dedicated service. At an early age, Miss Chris accepted Christ as her Savior and joined First Baptist Church in 1958. Throughout her 68 years of faithful membership, she served in numerous ministries, including Children's Church, the Church Newsletter Ministry, the Financial Count Team, the Homecoming Committee, the Library Ministry, Vacation Bible School, the Woman's Progressive Club, and the Bulletin Board Ministry. She was a proud Gold Star Member and remained a faithful attendee until her health no longer allowed her to do so.

Miss Chris leaves to cherish her precious memory her two devoted daughters, Deborah (Bennie) Harris and Bobbietta (Cassius Sr.) Adams; one stepson, De'Vore Holman; four beloved grandchildren, Cassius Adams Jr., Chase Adams, Cameron Adams, and Madera Harris; and her cherished great-grandson, Carter Adams. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Delores Estes and Sheila Newton; a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and special friends who faithfully cared for and supported her, Tayron (Glenda) Wilson, Carolyn Allison, Conita Hicks, Barbara Miller, Brenda Humphrey, Ida Cathey, Johnnie Quick and David Godley.

Miss Chris will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, servant's spirit, creativity, and unconditional love for her family, church, and community. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and compassion will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at First Baptist Church-Highland Ave. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
