Christine Peak Astrop transitioned to heaven from a room filled with love and Zion songs early Thursday morning, September 16, 2021. She was born June 10, 1932 to Hurbert Peak and Alice Medley Peak in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
A graduate of Atkins High School, she retired from The Western Electric Company.
For most of her forty-one-year membership at Phillip's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, prior to the decline in her health, Christine was a faithful member and the financial secretary of the Hymnal Choir. Among other services, as a member of the Senior Citizens Ministry, she volunteered for Second Harvest Food Bank.
Christine was mother to and provided support and motherly counsel to many others as she raised her eleven children as a single parent after her husband Henry Lee Astrop, Sr passed when they were both very young.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, three grandsons, and two sons in-law.
Left to cherish many precious memories are six daughters, Brenda McLaurin, Lavetta (James) Williams, Chiquita Shields, Alice (Bobby) Clark, Lydia (Sherman) Marshall and Teresa (Gary) Foster; five sons, Henry Astrop, Jr., Christopher, Kelvin (Victoria), Jeffrey, and Terry Astrop; two adopted daughters, Doris Christian and Carolyn Shell; one brother, Homer (Vernette) Peak; two sisters, Bishop Alicia Peak-Patterson and Elizabeth Peak all of Winston Salem, NC and a host of grandchildren, great-grand, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Christine was blessed to enjoy long-term special relationships with Shirley Williams of Winston Salem and Sharon Evans of Rocky Mount, NC. Thank God for two special and devoted daughters-in-law, Sheila Smith and Sheila B. Astrop.
Special gratitude to her devoted son in-law James (Roy) Williams. We are also very grateful for the entire staff at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center with special thanks to Regina Johnson, Jennifer Heath, and Kamika Talley.
