Cheryl Ann Young ended her earthly journey on September 6, 2021 at 12:50am at Forsyth Medical Center to join her Heavenly Father.

Cheryl was born on June 21, 1949 to the late James T. Young and Louise E. Young; she was the third of five children. Her brothers, James L. Young and Wayne T. Young preceded her in death.

She attended D.C. Public Schools graduating from Eastern Senior High School in June of 1967. Upon graduation, she began working for D.C. Transit Bus System. Other jobs included: Project 75, Federal Highway Commission, Howard University, and D.C. Law Revision Commission. She retired from the D.C. Department of Insurance Securities and Regulations in March 2003 after 22 years of service.

Cheryl relocated from Washington, D.C. to North Carolina in 2006, residing in Winston-Salem until her death.

She is survived by her son, Noland O. Walters; three grandchildren, Briannia Walters, De'Andre Walters, and Jalen Walters; her sisters, Bonnie Y. Freeman and Adrienne C. Young (caretaker); nieces, Monica Kirksey, Ashlee Hawkins, and Chailyn Coles; nephew, Jovan W. Young; and a host of numerous family members and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Monday, September 20, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Interment will follow at St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rural Hall, NC.
