Obituary

Our beloved Cheryl Devae Reid was born on October 27, 1966 to parents Nathaniel Reid and the late Jacqueline January. After a life full of love, travel, and adventure, Cheryl went on to glory the night of April 1, 2024.

Cheryl was born in the District of Columbia, and at 6 years old her family moved to the Prince Georges County area in Maryland.  She graduated in 1984 from Central High School in Capitol Heights, MD where she was active in different clubs and activities. Cheryl also studied at Bowie State University, located in Bowie MD, pursuing courses in business and fashion.  Cheryl always loved fashion, and was a very sharp dresser as a teenager, and an adult.  You would always find her in the latest designs and she also had a keen interest in interior design as well.

The proud mother of two sons, Solomon and Ian, Cheryl also excelled in her career as a flight attendant for United Airlines spanning over 25 years. She traveled extensively - walked the Great Wall of China, swam on the beaches of Hawaii and the Caribbean, she shopped in London, South Africa, Russia, Taiwan, Paris, Ghana, Nigeria, and her most recent trip was to Dubai.  She lived an in vogue and exciting life making friends all across the globe.

She also spent lots of time with her favorite little person - her grandson, Peyton.  She took him with her on her travels as well. She loved her sons and grandson very much.

Cheryl was also a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church in District Heights MD, and when she moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina to care for her aging mother, she joined Saint's Home United Methodist church along with her Mom. Cheryl enjoyed volunteering at a local food bank in Winston, and she also volunteered at her grandson's school. She always prioritized being active in the community, and dreamt of opening a shelter or food bank one day.

Cheryl  was known for her extravagant style and elegant taste.  Her eye for fashion was reflected in her home - from her international treasures sourced from around the world, her book and art collection, her fabulous dresses, the fresh flowers in her kitchen, to her baby grand piano that sat in her living room.  She often encouraged her sons and grandchildren to learn to play the piano.  Cheryl would always bring her loved ones a gift or trinket that she came across during her travels -  it would be special and one of a kind, just like her.

Cheryl is survived by her 2 sons, Solomon Martinez and Ian Agbele, 2 grandchildren, Peyton and Jewelianna; her father, Nathaniel Reid (Dorothy); 2 siblings, Valencia Reid and Allen Reid (Sheila); 2 nieces, Ashaki Reid and Ava Reid; Godsisters, Kyme and E'Nya Williamson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who love her and will miss her dearly.
