Mr. Charlie J. Jordan, Sr., affectionately known as "CJ", 81, of Winston-Salem departed this life on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a period of illness. He was born to Lillie Mae Riggins Jordan and John Henry Jordan, Sr. in Laurinburg, N.C.
Upon moving to Winston-Salem as an adult, he met and married his wife, and subsequently opened "Charlie's Radio & TV Service", proudly serving the citizens of East Winston-Salem for over 40+ years before retiring and closing the business.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years, faithfully serving on the Usher Board, Drama Ministry, Kitchen Committee, Sunday School, Spiritual Choir, D. Everette Bible Study, and as the Church Custodian for a number of years. Going beyond, he reliably unlocked the church whenever needed, day or night.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary "Monk" Benson Jordan; two brothers, Will Jordan and John H. Jordan, Jr.; a sister, Rachel Todd; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including most recently deceased Annie Jordan.
Mr. Jordan leaves the following family members who will forever cherish his memory: four daughters, Marcella Jordan, Pamela Jordan, Medina Hunter of Winston-Salem, and Cecilia (Lonnie) Dukes of Hope Mills, NC; two sons, Charlie J. Jordan, Jr. and Eduardo Jordan of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Dewan Jordan, Sarah (Maury) Spease of Winston-Salem, James Coleman of Greensboro, and Jamese Dukes of Hope Mills; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Nathaniel (Alice) Jordan Sr. and Charles Jordan of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Fannie Times, Lucille Monroe of Winston-Salem, Elizabeth Davis of Mt. Vernon, NY and Shirley Brown of Atlanta, GA; four sisters-in-law, Margretta Key, Roxie (Carl)Burns, Alice Lindsay of Winston-Salem, and Queen (Al) Withee of Ocala, FL; four brothers-in-law, John Benson of Winston-Salem, Leroy Benson of Mocksville, Edwin (Claire) Benson of Rialto, CA, and George (Sharon) Benson of Fontana, CA; several cousins, extended family members and many friends.
A Home Going celebration of his life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
