Charles Edward Rice, affectionately known as "Carlos", 84 years old, was born on February 26, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC.

He was a Deacon, usher, choir member of various choirs, member of the Christian Men Fellowship, and van driver of Middle Fork Christian Church.  He was an active member of the community, engaging in little league baseball as a coach. He played baseball with the Winston-Salem Pond Giants, the East Winston Braves, and the Winston-Salem Indians.  He tried out for the Cincinnati Red's Baseball Pro Team.  He was also a member of the Happy Hills Senior Club.

Charles graduated from Atkins High School in 1958 and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in 2006.

He transitioned home on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Sherard; father, Oliver Rice; sons, Carlos Rice and Eric Lewis; sister, Arnstine Rice Crawford (Louis); brothers, Thaddeus Rice and Herman Rice; grandparents; niece, Toriyana Gaskins; and a host of other relatives.

Left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Patricia Rice; son, DelTerry (Penna) Rice; sister, Alice (Leon) James; grandchildren, Tramela (Shawn) Mosley, Jasmine Williams, Kimberly Holmes, and Jayla Holmes; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Costons, Yolanda Lewis, and Lisa (Cedric) Glenn; other family and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, June 28, 2024 at Middle Fork Christian Church with Reverend Anderson Hicks, III officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
