Charles Edward Morrison, of the city, transitioned peacefully, September 3, 2016 at his home, after a brief illness. He was born in Forsyth County to the late Elijah "Mack" Morrison and Myrtle McIntyre Morrison.
Mr. Morrison graduated with the class of 1948 from Atkins High School, served his country in Korea, receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1953, received his Junior Accounting Diploma from Russell's Commercial School in 1955, and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1990 after 37 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Morrison, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Spillman Morrison of Rural Hall; a son, Tony Sherard Morrison of the city; and sisters, Cyrus "Elizabeth" Sinclair of DC and Nancy M. Grace of the city.
He leaves to treasure his memory his wife, Doris Sherard Morrison, of the home; two devoted daughters, Mary M. Bethea (Kevin) of Rural Hall and Irma M. Taylor of the city; his sister, Rosella M. Mebane of the city; nine grandchildren: Rommel Morrison (Leigh) of Greensboro, Dexter E. Lowe (Jackie) of the city, Loretta Lowe of the city, Erica Cousin of Kernersville, Marlon Morrison of the city, Lakisha Sturgues (Kevin) of Thomasville, Jason Lee Taylor of the city, Linda McKnight of Rural Hall, and Tony Jabari Taylor-Reid of the city; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 12:30pm on Wednesday at the Chapel.
