Obituary

Mr. Charles King, 88, passed away at his residence on Wednesday February 26, 2014. He was a life-long residence of Winston-Salem and was born on July 14, 1925 to the late Cleo and James King, Sr.

He attended Atkins High School and joined the Army in 1943, where he served on active duty as a PFC in WWII. He was a loving and devoted father and a former leader of his community association. He served as an election volunteer and poll watcher over several years. His health has prevented him from attending Union Baptist Church and although not active, he was a 32 degree Mason. He worked for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for over 35 years where he was responsible for training many of the equipment operators. He was an accomplished pool player, loved wood working and had an informed interest in coin collecting.

He is the last of his four siblings, James, Catherine and Idonya, all of who preceded him in death. He was married to Helen Saunders, who preceded him in death by several years. They had 4 children; Charles, Jr. (decreased), Cheryl of Atlanta, GA, Debra and Kenneth both of Winston-Salem; and his grandson, Miles also of Winston-Salem.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12noon until 1pm on Tuesday at the Chapel.
