Charles James Gunter was born to Marshall and Ernesteen Gunter on September 23, 1938 in Marion, SC. He departed this life on May 3, 2014. He attended the Marion County schools. Charles married Clementine Brown on June 8, 1963. To this union, four children were born: Charlene Deloris, Terry Ricardo, Patricia Ann (Avie Lester), and Quentin Durand.
Charles was employed by RJ Reynolds Archer plant in Winston-Salem, NC and retired after 46 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he became affectionately known as the "Mayor" of the Easton Community Grocery at the corner of Thomasville and Clemmonsville Rd. He was an avid raccoon hunter and fisherman who won numerous trophies for his achievements. In his final days, Charles made peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Marshall, Jr., George Olden, Ivory McLorrell, Ausaola, and Jethro.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years; his children; four siblings, Ailue, Lena (McFadden), and Rowu; four grandchildren, Sade, Kenya, Imani and Avie III; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and one aunt, Edna T. Gunter; his special friends and his extended family at the Easton Community Grocery.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday May 8, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Quentin Gunter officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Chapel.
