Obituary

Charles Stevenson Greene was born in Swan Quarter, North Carolina on March 19, 1943. He was the second of three children born from the union of Mary Elizabeth Greene and Columbus Harris.

Upon graduating from High School, Charles entered the United States Army and served several years receiving an honorable discharge, relocating to New York.

It was there where he met Frankie Davis in 1966 creating two children, Vincent and Sherita. He also fathered two daughters from previous relationships, Angela and Denise.

Charles was baptized and received the Lord as a teenager. He was a member of Merrick Park Baptist Church, where he became the President of the Usher Board and later a deacon under the late Bishop Curtis G. Norton.

He enjoyed saltwater fishing and gardening in his back yard and the church garden.

After retiring from his job in New York, he and his wife relocated to Kernersville, NC where they joined New Bethel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

Charles entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Hazel Saddler and Patricia Gibbs.

He will have loving memories that will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Frankie Green; children, Mary Denise Gibbs (Anthony), Angela Smith (Kenneth), Vincent Greene, and Sherita Freeman (Macio); eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends considered as family.

There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Monday, November 8, 2021 at New Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Monday at the Church.
