Mr. Charles William Gadson departed this earthly life Monday, January 1, 2007. Born December 26, 1924, he was the eldest son of Charlie and Albertha Gadson of Maysville, NC.
Charles attended public school in Jones County, NC. After graduating from A&T with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, he taught math and electronics at Delwatts Radio School in Winston-Salem, NC. In 1949, he established the Twin City Electric Contracting Company which later became the Gadson Electric Company. Winston-Salem held a special place in Charles' heart; where he met and married Irma Wellman on June 8, 1952. His community services and organizations included the 4th Degree-Knights of Columbus, Sierra Club of Winston-Salem, Forsyth Health Planning Council, Winston-Salem Transit Authority, the National Association of Minority Contractors, the National Electrical Contractors Association, and the Joint Apprentice Training Committee of Electrical Contractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Rudolph and Douglas Lee Gadson.
Left to cherish the memories of Charles William Gadson are his devoted wife, Irma Wellman Gadson; his sisters, Mary Taylor, Sudie Gatling, Edith Barnes, Margaret Freeman, Joyce Parker, Evelyn Grate, Dasretta Sapp; and a brother, James Gadson. An extensive host of nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces, and extended family honor his memory. Considered children by mutual adoption are Sister Larretta Rivera-Williams, Jerome and Kemery Butler, Jereme and Paul Nelson, and Monica Lett.
A Mass for the Celebration of Life for Mr. Charles William Gadson will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, January 6, 2007 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, January 5, 2007 from 6 pm until 7 pm at Russell Funeral Home.
