Obituary

Charles Junior Davis, 75, passed from earth to reward on September 11, 2021, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on April 27, 1946 in Walkertown, North Carolina to the late Arthur William Davis and Rosa Mae Davis.

Charles was educated in the Forsyth county school system. He graduated from Carver High School and attended North Carolina Central University.  After completing his freshman year, he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1964. While in the US Air Force, he completed two tours in the Vietnam War and began his lifelong career as an electrician.  He was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Sergeant.  He furthered his studies at Forsyth Technical Community College and Winston Salem Business College.

His work career as an electrician began at Duplan Cooperation and continued at R J Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring after 30 years of service.

He was baptized in 1983 by the late Rev. J. R. Samuels and became a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church.

A giant in statue and in heart, Charles loved his family fiercely. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. He loved helping out friends and neighbors with their electrical needs.  His hobbies included baking, gardening, lawn care, fishing, sporting events, watching movies, and spending time with his "grand pups", Haggai and Rahlow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lacy Marie Shanks (Robert); nephews, Rufus Shanks and Robert Shanks; and sister-in-law, Margie Byers (Jonathan).

Charles is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Carrouthers Davis; his children, Rodney Dorian Boyd of Salisbury, North Carolina and Margaret Rose Davis of High Point, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Terrae Lashaun Belin of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one brother, Ricky Davis of Winston Salem, North Carolina; one sister, Sharon Pickett (Clint) of Wilmington, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Charles Carrouthers and Jonathan Byers;  nephews, Arthur Shanks (Michelle), Brian Shanks (Toni), Ja'Juan Davis (Essence), Gregory Davis, Qwanelle Ruffin, Darius Shanks, Shondell Morgan and Eddie Byers; nieces, Christina Gaines (Edward), Roqueeta Sides (Dominque), Crystal Harris (Stacy), and Rochelle Mitchell along with a host of grand nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Friday, September 17, 2021. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
