Charles E. Corts was born in Winston-Salem, NC on September 12, 1930, to Mary (Courts) Crutchfield. He attended Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Atkins High school. As a teen, he spent time as a golf caddie, and he also enjoyed fishing. Charles was very close to his aunt Lida Courts-Walls and her husband, Jim Walls, and spent much of his formative years with them.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Bridgeport, Conn, and from there joined the U.S Army. Charles served three years in Germany and after an honorable discharge, returned to Bridgeport, taking a job at Dolan Steel. While in Bridgeport, Charles married and had two daughters. Later he relocated to Maryland to work for Pepco, the utility company where he continued to work until he retired. After retirement, he returned to Winston-Salem where he enjoyed fishing and playing golf. In fact, his passion for golf grew and he played often and entered many tournaments with his golfing buddies.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Crutchfield; aunt and uncle, Lida and James Walls; his aunt and uncle, Margaret and Andrew Courts; his cousin, Charlet Stevenson; his brother, Arthur (Scrap) Perry; and brother -in-law, Richard Killens.
He is survived by daughters, Karen Corts and Charlyn Corts-Sells; son-in-law, Raymond Sells; sister, Ellen Killens; and very dear friend, Dorothy Wilder. He will also be remembered by his niece; four grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and a host of good friends.
We would also like to thank the people of Forsyth Courts Apartments for welcoming him and making him feel at home.
