Charles Matthew Carthern was born June 13, 1960 in Washington, DC to James and Rebecca Carthern. He departed this life on October 16, 2021 in Winston-Salem, NC.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, James Carthern; and his brother, Carl Carthern.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Carthern; children, daughter, Carla Carthern and her husband, Michael Strickland, Jr; and son, Hamas Carthern; his mother, Rebecca Carthern; his siblings, Janet Carthern, James "Reds" Carthern, Geno Carthern, Robbie Carthern, Tecoski "Ronnie" Carthern, and Patrick Carthern; three nieces; fifteen nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
