Obituary

Mr. Charles Alan Davis, 65, passed away Sunday, September 2, at Forsyth Medical Center with his family at his side.

He was born in Forsyth County on May 23, 1947 to Roscoe B. Davis Sr. and Emma Gaither Davis Harper.

He attended St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School and graduated from Anderson Sr. High School. Immediately after High School, he enlisted in and would serve two tours of duty in the United States Marine Corps. He received an undergraduate degree from Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC and continued his graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

He retired from the Employment Security Commission and Veterans Administration where he worked as a disabled veteran's outreach counselor. He was also a Grand Master martial artist with black belts in five different styles. Countless numbers of students have benefitted from his nearly 50 years of experience. Most recently, he taught classes for the Winston-Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

Mr. Davis leaves behind his wife, DeVe' Griffin Davis; son, Charles Alan Davis Jr. (Benita); daughter, Amber Davis Petree (Christopher); seven grandchildren; mother, Emma Davis Harper; brother, Roscoe B. Davis Jr. (Arcenia); nieces, Tifani Gilliam (Clifton) and Tonya Walker; nephew, Eric Davis (Teresa); sister-in-law, Phyllis Walker; brother-in-law, William Griffin; and devoted friends, Clyde Moore, Mary Keith and David Robbins.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, September 7, 2012 at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church with Bishop Seth O. Lartey, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
