Charles Agurs was born February 22, 1934 in Winston-Salem, NC and departed this life on October 12, 2017. He was the youngest of six children born to the late William and Azalee Agurs.
Upon graduation from Atkins High School, he joined the US Army. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Winston-Salem Teachers College and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. At one time he served two terms on the City of Winston-Salem Planning Board.
Charles was a faithful member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Choir and a charter member of the Men's Chorus.
He leaves to celebrate his a life a loving sister, Elizabeth Griffin; nieces, Diana Carree, Wanda Stafford, Beth Stafford, and Carol Griffin; nephews, Walter Agers (Delores), Christopher Griffin, David Agers (Haley), Eric Agers (Kim), Phillip Stafford, and Christian Carree; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, October 20, 2017 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Linda Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
