Celestine LaVonne Hairston Byers was born April 10, 1955 to Charles Perry and Catherine Hairston Jackson. She departed this earthly life on September 8, 2015.
Celestine was a graduate of East Forsyth High School and furthered her education at Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth Technical Community College. She was formerly employed with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. where she met her loving husband, Grady Byers.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Grady Byers; one daughter, Nicole Hairston; two sons, Nicholas Hairston and LaVonjuay Hairston; five grandchildren that she adored, Mariah Jacobs, Malik Jacobs, Wisdom Jacobs, Nikiya Jacobs, and Kanajah Hairston; four brothers, Charles (Pamela) Hairston of the city, Alan Jackson, Dennis Jackson, and Mark Jackson of Detroit, MI; six sisters, Pamela Hairston and Charlene (Darryl) Pauling of the city, Linda Toatly, Francheska Toliver, and Kim Jackson of Detroit, MI, and Leslie Jackson of Eureka, MO; and a host of loving aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. John CME Church with Omar L. Dykes officiating and Reverend Timothy Lyons eulogist. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 7:00pm Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
