Obituary

Mr. Cecil Alwood Holland, Sr. of 1707 Longview Dr., Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was born July 31, 1934 in Fountain Inn, South Carolina in Laurens County to Reese Sullivan and Della Young Holland. He departed this earthly life on October 18, 2024 after a long period of illness. Cecil was a dedicated member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church where he served over the years as a member of the Board of Trustees, Gospel Choir, advisor for the young adult choir, and missionary and Sunday school ministries. Cecil received the Degree of Symbolic Masonry in 1984 and became a member of the Bivouac Lodge 503 Prince Hall Masons where he earned a Certificates of Merit for Outstanding Service.

Cecil worked 33.42 years at R J Reynolds Tobacco Company before retiring as a machine operator in 1989. After retiring from RJR, he worked briefly in security and transportation services. Early in his life, Cecil enjoyed fishing with his sons, vacationing with his family, and riding his motorcycle with his friends and wife.

Cecil was preceded in death by his father and mother; sisters, Bonnie Holland Bradley and Bobbie Holland Smith; brother, Thomas Rawley Holland; sons, Carl Alreno and Cletis Alvon Holland; and daughter-in-law, Bernadine Shaw Holland. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Rosa Mae Richardson Holland; sons, Dr. Cecil Alwood Holland, Jr. and Cedric Alcardo Holland; daughter, Rev. Rhonda (Nathaniel) Holland Dixon; special niece, Carolyn Diana Gilliam; special daughter and son, Barbara Meadows Johnson and Jerome (Tyrone) Griffin; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Williams Holland; sister-in-law, Madeline Richardson and brother-in-law Rufus Smith Sr., all of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Friday at the Church.
