Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Odean Singletary Wright, 69, affectionately known as "Cat" and "Mrs. Catherine", departed this life unexpectedly on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

She was born on February 24, 1940, in Lake City, SC, to Louis and Liza Singletary.

Mrs. Wright was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.

She retired from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2007 after 13 years of service. Mrs. Wright was also employed by First Presbyterian Church, and the families of Drs. Chad and Jane Stephens, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Waltrip, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Ward, Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Hubbard, Mr. & Mrs. Leon Porter, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Clayton, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Ford, Dr. & Mrs. William Satterwhite, and Mr. & Mrs. Don Flow whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Michael Wright; her mother, Liza Singletary; her father, Louis Singletary; an aunt, Vina Singletary Brayboy, who was a mother to her and reared her; a special uncle, Samuel Melvin "SM" Singletary; a cousin who was like a sister, Letha Mae "Rat" Graham; three brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Wright leaves to cherish her precious memory, two daughters, Sandra Wright (Kevin) and Sophia (Clifis) Murray of the city; two sons, Marcel Wright (Jamie) and Maurice Wright (ShaCoya) of the city; a devoted companion, Mr. William Henry "Bee" Jones of Spring Lake, NC; seven grandchildren, Michael and Emon Grier, Eryn, Aaron, and Alyson Murray; Makeia Cobb, and Makailah Wright of the city; three sisters; five brothers; two aunts; two uncles; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and many children that she lovingly cared for as her own.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Cornelius officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30PM until 1:00PM on Wednesday at the church.
