Ms. Catherine Elizabeth Staplefoote was born in Winston-Salem NC on July 17, 1978 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital to Robert and Elizabeth Staplefoote. As a young child she was loved dearly by her older siblings, Teleah Michelle Roberts and Robert Earl Staplefoote, Jr.
All throughout her education she was a determined and high achieving student with her mind focused on her goals. She was educated in Christian schools throughout her school years and graduated eighth grade from Ephesus Junior Academy. She went on to excel at Robert B. Glenn High School, where she graduated as a top student and participated on the flag team and Latin Club. She then attended the illustrious Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) where she majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. As she matriculated, she was known to be a tremendous support and example for her classmates. After her undergraduate training she started to work at a physician's office. During her time there, she was inspired to pursue a career as a Physician's Assistant. She was determined to attend the very competitive Physician's Assistant program at Wake Forest University. As a mother of two young children, she was accepted to and graduated from this rigorous program and obtained her Master of Medical Science. She then moved to Charlotte, NC and worked at a pulmonologist practice in Rock Hill, SC.
After 2 years, she decided to come back home to Winston-Salem and she joined OrthoCarolina Orthopedic practice where she was respected and loved by the surgeons, patients and numerous colleagues with whom she worked. She was known to be a loving and committed mother to her children Destin Jalen and Jayla Simone Massey. Even after long days in the hospital or the clinic, she was a dedicated and enthusiastic fan at their flag football, soccer, and basketball games. She was cherished by her partner and father of her children, Duane Massey whom she met during her time at WSSU.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Pastor Alonzo and Mrs. Catherine Banks; her paternal grandparents, Sgt Lynell and Mrs. Myrene Staplefoote; and her maternal aunts, Alonda Bradley, and Dorothy Jean Banks.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Destin and Jayla Massey of Winston-Salem, NC; her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Staplefoote; her sister, Teleah Michelle Roberts (Mike) of Charlotte NC; her brother, Robert Earl Staplefoote, Jr. (Eva) of Winston-Salem, NC; her aunts and uncles, Brenda Lyles (Robert) and Lynette Staplefoote of Winston-Salem, NC, Harvey Staplefoote (Noal) King NC, and Bessie Staplefoote of Winston-Salem, NC; her sisters-in-love, Warrenetta Clements, Lasheka King, and Dendra Marcus; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her infectious smile, delicious banana pudding, competitive spirits during game night, and her poised presence will be missed by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and other loved ones.
Private services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Trellis Supportive Care and OrthoCarolina of Winston-Salem.
