Ms. Catherine Arvetta Hawkins-Speller, 52, of 9473 Glenn Road, Lewisville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1964 in Forsyth County to the late Howard Hawkins and Thomasina Hawkins.
"Cookie" as she was affectionately known, was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Barbizon Beauty College. She was loyal member of New Hope AME Zion Church in Lewisville, NC; where she served as the President of the Stewardess Board, Director of the Youth Missionary, Activities Director of the Christian Education Department, Vice President of the Voices of Praise Choir and a member of the DLS Choir. She served on the Winston-District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church as the Conference Worker, Youth Missionary Director and the Secretary of the Winston-Salem District Choir. Cookie also formed the Black Girls Rock Choir.
She was very active in the Lewisville Community Assistance Program (LCAP) assisting persons in need in the Lewisville community and on the Board of the Lewisville Community Churches Blood Drives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Hawkins; and sister, Wanda Fay Hawkins-Porter.
She is survived by one son, Blake Speller; her mother, Thomasina Hawkins; one Goddaughter, McKenzie Blackburn; three sisters, Tony Hawkins, Constance Hawkins, and Brenda Jackson; two brothers, Ronald (Virgie) Hawkins and Rev. Willie Hawkins; one special sister-in-law, Teressa; one brother-in-law, George Porter; one uncle, Larry Kimbrough; two aunts, Anna Partlow and Bernice (James) Hill; her other mother, Ma Marilyn Parks; four special sisters, Rev. Beverly W. McMillian, Rev. Belinda S. Harris, Marie M. Jamerson (Robert), and Frances Leach; Godbrother, Rev. Morgan Glenn; special niece, Tomache' Jones; 5 other nieces, 5 nephews, 8 great-nieces, 5 great-nephews; 1 great-great-niece, and a multitude of cousins, friends, and co-workers with one special Co-worker, Becky.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, June 5, 2017 at Lewisville United Methodist Church, 6290 Shallowford Rd. Lewisville, NC with Rev. Dorothy C. Kelley officiating and Rev. Dairl L. Scott, Sr. eulogist. Interment will follow in the New Hope AME Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
