Mr. Carroll R. Wood passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. He was a member of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, Winston-Salem and St. Anthony Catholic Church, Washington, D. C. He was born on November 8, 1940, the youngest of eight children, to Gertrude Diggs Wood and Alfonso T. Wood. Mr. Wood was educated in the D.C. Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfonso (Buddy), and sisters: Ada, Barbara and Georgianna. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mildred Smith Wood, and four children, Carroll, Carolyn (Willie), Brian (Karen) and Stephen. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Christian, Carroll James (CJ), Ariane and Lisette. Also survived by one brother, Donald (Zeke) and his wife, Anna, and two sisters, Virginia Eades and Shirley Webb, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Wood served as a loyal staffer to three U. S. Senators for more than 38 years. A Celebration of Life and Prayer Service will be held at Russell Funeral Home, Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday, July 24 at 6 p.m, with family visitation until 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1029 Monroe Street, NE, Wash., D.C. on Tuesday, July 27 at 1 p.m., with family visitation from 12 to 1 p.m. Interment at Ft Lincoln Cemetery, Bladensburg Road at Eastern Ave., Brentwood, MD. Services entrusted to Russell Funeral Home, Winston-Salem and Marshall Funeral Services, Washington, D.C.
