Mr. Carroll Burgess Sr., 84, of Winston Salem, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Carroll was born on February 28, 1932 to Charlie and Alma Burgess of Salters, SC.
Carroll was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the Father of the Church.
He proudly served 40 years in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. In addition, he worked in a variety of roles from masonry to gardening. He was a friend to all and was selfless in helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Hastey Woods, Dorothy Loews, Savannah Williams, and Doretha Davis.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons, Marie Davis, Marisa Soublet, Jamie Bennett, Debbie Dunlap, Carroll Burgess, Jr., Stanley Burgess, and Antonio Jordan; he was blessed with 11 grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren; the love of his life, Julia Jordan; one sister, Rebecca Marr of Memphis, TN; two brothers, Taylor Burgess of Homestead, FL, and John Burgess of Winston-Salem, NC; Mary Scott Nelson and Gloria Jelks who were raised in the home with the family; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Fulwood, officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Saturday at the Church. Interment will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury NC.
