Carrie S. Smith, 99 of Springwood Care Center, 5755 Shattalon Drive passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010. She was born February 22, 1911 in Pink Hill , North Carolina to Daisy Smith and moved to Winston-Salem in her late teens to work for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Most of her career was spent in the employ as a housekeeper of the James A. Gray Jr. family in Winston-Salem, NC.
She was a longtime and faithful member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church where she was a founder of the gospel choir 51 years ago and a proud member of the Willing Workers.
Left to cherish her memories are family members, Essie Miller and Marie Miller of NY, Thelma Miller of SC, Virginia Miller, Roy Miller, and Brenda Miller all of NC; her God-son and his family, James (Elizabeth) Gray; good friend and church member, Hazel Moore; and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, April 19, 2010 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 1435 E. Fourth Street with Reverend Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2pm on Monday at the Church.
