Obituary

In loving memory of Carria Shearer Stout, who departed this life on October 20, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on June 30, 1956, in Welch, West Virginia, Carria lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, faith, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

Carria shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Nathaniel James Stout Sr. Together they built a loving home filled with laughter, support, and treasured memories. Her greatest joy was her family, and she dedicated her life to caring for those she loved most.

She was the proud and devoted mother of Nathaniel James Stout Jr. (Jennifer) and Kevin Jermaine Stout, who preceded her in death. Her love continued through her cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel James Stout III “Trey” and Trinity Marie Stout.

Carria was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Jermaine Stout; her mother, Evelyn Cleo Russell Day; her father, Sebert Randolph Gambill; sisters, Jennie G. Dominguez, Annie Rose Gambill, Lilly Mae Gambill, and Edna Gambill; brothers, Rufus M. Gambill, Robert Lewis Gambill, and Randolph Gambill; and sisters-in-law, Valeria Stout, Rosemary Stout, and Theodora Stout.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Nathaniel James Stout Sr.; her son, Nathaniel James Stout Jr. (Jennifer); grandchildren, Trey and Trinity; sisters, Mable Bryson (Stephen), Mary Day, and Angela Day Carper; brother-in-law, Leon Stout; sister-in-law, Judy Gambill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

For more than 40 years, Carria dedicated herself to serving others as a Registered Nurse. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Bluefield State College, now (Bluefield State University), and used her knowledge and compassionate spirit to comfort and care for countless individuals throughout her career.

Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her career. Carria volunteered during primary and general election cycles, supported the American Heart Association, and faithfully assisted with church functions and ministries.

Those who knew Carria will remember her as someone who never hesitated to help a person in need. She loved gathering with family, spending time at the beach, traveling, and creating special memories with those she loved.

As we remember and celebrate the life of Carria Shearer Stout, the family has chosen to gather for a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date. Family and friends will be invited to join in honoring her memory, sharing stories, laughter, and treasured memories, and celebrating the love and joy she brought to so many lives.

Carria's family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. While her presence will be deeply missed, they find comfort in knowing that she is at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
