Obituary

Carmella Brenette Lindsay was born to Baxter Allen Lindsay and Sandra Simpson McCullough. She attended the W-S/FC Schools, graduating from Parkland High School.
Always straightforward, Carmella had a way of being direct and piercing, with a unique wisdom. She adored her grandmother Rosena, but Carmella was fiercely committed to her mother, Sandra and brother, Marcus (her hero). The three were a force to be reckoned with, always loving, laughing, and living life with passionate intensity.
As a young lady, Carmella matriculated to Georgia Tech University for nursing. Upon her return to Winston, she was employed in the medical field while continuing to pursue her nursing degree from Forsyth Tech and UNC-Greensboro.
Professional highlights include Pell Care (1st job), health management with AIDS Care Service, Brighton Gardens and private duty nursing for several clients.
Carmella loved an adventure; and her best friend, DeeDy Alexander was usually not far behind. She loved traveling, music, concerts, theatre, dancing, fashion and being the natural Diva that she was!
On November 26, 2004, Carmella blessed the family and universe with the birth of her beloved Imani De'Nasia Stover, the spitting image of her mother. Carmella loved being a mother to Imani. She loved Imani more than anything!
Most importantly, Carmella laid a foundation for Imani, surrounding her with family and friends deeply rooted in religion, education, culture and love.
Carmella was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mr. Earl Simpson, Sr.; an aunt, Evangelist Mildred Simpson-Blackwell ("Bay"); two uncles, Jeffrey and Kenneth Simpson; and cousin, Antwaun Simpson.
Left to cherish wonderful, blessed memories are her daughter, Imani De'Nasia Stover; mother, Sandra K. McCullough; father, Baxter Allen Lindsay (Robin); sister, Banshae Lindsay; brothers, Marcus N. Simpson and Baxter Allen Lindsay, Jr.; grandmother, Rosena Simpson; aunts, Joyce (Roosevelt) Brooks, and Evangelist Rose (Deacon Hawatha) Gist; uncles, Jesse (Sylvia) Simpson of New Orleans, LA, Leonard (Donna) Simpson, Norvell (Tara) Simpson, Harry (Sheila) Simpson, Earl, Donald, and Timothy Simpson; great-aunts, Mrs. Fannie Townsend of SC, Mrs. Annie Mae Gaston and Helen Hayes, both of Charlotte; special friends, John M. Poindexter, IV., DeeDy Alexander and a host of cousins, friends and extended family members.
Funeral services for Ms. Carmella B. Lindsay will be held at 1:00pm Friday March 12, 2010 at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 300 W. 25th Street with Rev. Connie G. Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Friday at the church.
