Mr. Carlton "Carl" Wendell Binns, 65, of Winston-Salem, NC, died at his home after a long illness on Saturday, July 16, 2016. He is survived by his devoted, caring, and loving wife of 12 years, Charleator Binns, who was faithfully at his side comforting him until death.
Born in Newport News, VA on June 3, 1951, he was the son of the late Dr. Leon W. Binns and Mrs. Annie B. Washington. Carl moved with his parents to Winston-Salem in 1967 after living 6 years in Newport News, VA and Nashville, TN for 10 years. He was a graduate of Anderson High School where he was a member of the football team for two years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was also a musician and excelled in his studies as a percussionist with the late Dr. Andy Goodrich, whose credentials as a musician and scholar were impeccable. He was a member of the all-city Band in Nashville for two years. Carl also performed with several local singing groups in high school. He retired from Kaba Ilco Corp.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a loving and devoted daughter, Amy Binns of W-S, NC; four loving sons, Carlton W. Binns, Jr. (Angelique), Brian Binns (Shameika), Allen Binns (April), and Stephen Binns, all of W-S, NC; one devoted step-son, Rayvon Cox of W-S, NC; five loving and devoted sisters, Yvette Binns (David) of Peoria, AZ, Denise Binns of Litchfield Park, AZ, Pearl Washington of W-S, NC, Dr. Pamela (Russell) Binns-Gibson of Charlotte, NC, and Kenya (Lewis) Brown of W-S, NC; one loving and caring brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Marcia) Brian Binns of Newport News, VA; 25 loving grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a large host of relatives and friends.
Carl was deeply loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Chapel.
