Carlton E. Scales, Sr. 80, husband to Willie H. Scales for 59 years, father and grandfather, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center.
Carlton was born April 10, 1928 in Walnut Cove, NC.
After high school, he attended NC A&T University for two years. Carlton resided in Winston-Salem for the past 60 years; and worked and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company 1983 with 34 years of service. He enjoyed working on cars and fixing them; this was a great passion for him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Scales and his father, Valentine McLaughlin.
Mr. Scales is survived by his wife, Willie of the home; his children, Carlton, Jr., Patrice, Cassandra (Floyd) Neal, Darryl, Albert (Felicia) and his granddaughter whom he and his wife helped to raise, Chantelle (Wesley) Johnson; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Thursday, September 18, 2008 from the Morning Star Baptist Church with Reverend J.L. Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12 Noon on Thursday at the Church.
